Cardhu, the Queen of Speyside malts, has a generous spirit that is as well matched to that of the hard-working founder, Helen Cumming, as it is to that of the busy bees that pollinate the hillside heather through the long days of summer. Clean, elegant and perfectly poised, this Cardhu was made in small batches and matured in refill casks, as well as new and ex-bourbon American oak, drawing out tones of floral sweetness and spicy intensity in a playful exchange between wood and whisky. Notes of fresh orchard pear, green apple, grape and pineapple join a trace of lemon peel on the nose, with a gentle mossy base. The texture is creamy-smooth, the taste sweet then juicy, with a buttery richness. Of a good length, the finish is spicy, with lingering warmth. A unique release with very limited availability worldwide.

Serving Suggestion:

Serve neat, with ice or with water. Best served chilled for the perfect accompaniment to an alfresco lunch.

Region A secretive Speyside expression.
Appearance Deep gold with copper lights. Good beading.
Body Medium body.
Nose A mild nose-feel, dry, soft and gentle, with a richly fruity initial aroma; orchard pears, peaches and cherries in syrup, a trace of banana. As it opens the nose becomes fragrant and floral, with perhaps a hint of lily of the valley, and a suggestion of vanilla cream. A drop of water closes it down somewhat, but brings out more sugary fruitiness.
Palate At natural strength, smoothly creamy in texture, while the fruity taste is immediately sugar-sweet, as with soft fudge. There’s a trace of perfume in mid-palate then hot and spicy notes build towards the finish. Drying overall. With water sweetness is again the first impression, while a trace of salt heralds the return of the spiciness in the development.
Finish Spicy, with a lingering, embracing warmth. With water, smoother but still spicy, with a pleasant dryness lingering on the tongue.
